Team Spotlight: Christi Arnett

Role: RCM Director

Brief summary of experience: I hold an MBA in Healthcare Management, have a strong background in both Ophthalmology and Optometry, and am a certified professional coder with the AAPC. Over the past 18 years, I’ve worked in practice management for multi-location Ophthalmology practices, handled revenue cycle management, supported clients, and dealt with all things eyecare billing and coding. My experience in the eyecare industry gives me a solid foundation in clinical and billing support, coding, process mapping, and implementation.

How do you help practices each and every day: My day usually starts early so that I can speak with our overnight production team before their shift ends. I review payments and denials that came in overnight and review postings by the production team. During the day, I help my team with complex coding issues and problem claims and speak with clients by phone or hold meetings to review issues or answer questions.

What do you love most about your job: I enjoy seeing the positive influence our team has when we onboard new RCM customers. Our ability to share our unique expertise with clients enables us to offer training and knowledge to boost their revenue.

What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve seen practices face in the last year and how do you help solve them: The main challenge I notice in current practices is staffing. When our clients lose employees, our team can minimize the impact by handling the back-end posting and filing for them. Our team can also jump in when necessary to help alleviate staffing stress. For example, when one of our clients had a biller with a broken arm, we immediately jumped in to help. We are thrilled when our clients see us as an extension of their business.

What’s a memorable team moment or success you’ve been part of: Our team works remotely, so my favorite memories are when we all gather in the same place for our company meetings. When a new client tells me that they appreciate all of our hard work, I know that we are making a difference.

What’s something unique about the way you approach your work: I enjoy taking on challenges and solving problems. I am passionate about providing solutions and sharing my knowledge with others, and my dedication to continuous learning allows me to provide quality services to our clients.

Is there any piece of advice you consistently give practices: Accurate information is crucial for processing claims successfully. The front desk plays a vital role in this process, because this is where everything begins. Obtaining accurate demographic and insurance information during the initial phone call and when the patient arrives is crucial for filing a claim correctly.

In your opinion, what sets OMS apart from others in the industry: Our team is dedicated to building authentic connections with our clients, and we are committed to clear and effective communication and provide training to address areas that need improvement. We offer numerous opportunities to help our clients and enjoy seeing how happy they are when they notice an increase in revenue. 

What’s one thing on your bucket list you’re excited to have checked off: Traveling to India and experiencing an international trip was an amazing adventure and a dream come true.
